The government has approved the Culture and Sport Ministry's proposal to set aside 20 million shekels ($5.2 million US) for the 20th Maccabiah Games. This is an increase of about 27 percent over the previous games' funding.
The next Maccabiah Games, which is a sort of Jewish Olympics and the third-largest sporting event in the world, will take place in June 2017 and will celebrate 50 years of a reunified Jerusalem.
