Australia has threatened to take legal action against Japan for the latter's whale hunting in the Antarctic, after the latest hunt began last week. According to the Australian Foreign and Environmental Ministers, 33 countries oppose the excursion to catch hundreds of minke whales.
The International Whaling Commission banned commercial hunting in 1986, though Japan claims that its hunts are for research and therefore permitted.
