An official in Venezuela's opposition party has announced that his party won a majority in the recent parliamentary election. They received 99 seats, while the Socialists received 46 and there are 22 seats whose winners have not yet been declared.

President Nicolas Maduro says the he acknowledges "these adverse results" and is admitting defeat.

The Socialist party has led the country for the past 17 years.
