An explosion was reported in a bathroom at Japan's Yasukuni shrine, though no one was injured.
There is no information yet on what caused the blast, or whether it was an accident or intentional.
The shrine honors all of the country's war dead, including people executed as war criminals. China and South Korea, both of which suffered war crimes perpetrated by Japan, have been harsh critics of the site.
