The incumbent Turkish party, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has officially been declared the winner of yesterday's (Sunday) election. AKP received 49.4 percent of the votes, while the largest opposition party, CHP, received only 25.4 percent.

Two other parties, the pro-Kurdish HDP and the nationalist MHP also crossed the 10 percent threshold.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that the voters have "given proof of their strong desire for [Turkey's] unity and integrity" and "shown that they prefer action and development to controversy."
