Shaker Aamer, the last UK resident to have been imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay, has been released after 13 years. UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond acknowledged Aamar's release and said that he will be in the UK again "later today."
The 46-year-old Saudi national is married to a British woman and therefore obtained permission to live in the UK indefinitely. US officials claim that he led a Taliban unit and had met with Osama bin Laden, though they never charged him or put him on trial.
