The Nation, Religion and State Lobby was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Knesset.
At a meeting of the Lobby, Efrat Council Rabbi Shlomo Riskon said that “The Rabbinate does not want to recognize other conversion institutions… There needs to be pluralism within orthodoxy. I have witnessed tragedy within the Israeli society. The Chief Rabbis explain halacha (Jewish law) in a very foreign way.”
“The government gives the Chief Rabbi more power. We cannot allow them to have more power than they already have. The Knesset must decide that Chief Rabbi is not the Pope,” Rabbi Riskin added.
