The Kurdish YPG militia in northern Syria has joined forces with several Syrian Arab rebel groups against the Islamic State, a spokesman for the new alliance said on Monday.
The alliance calling itself the Democratic Forces of Syria has also been promised new weapons supplies from the United States in preparation for an assault on ISIS forces in Raqqa.
