An Iranian court has convicted Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian, though the specifics of the verdict have not yet been released.

Official news agency ISNA quoted the judiciary spokesperson as saying, "He has been convicted... But I don't have the details of his verdict."

Rezaian, an Iranian-American journalist, served as the Tehran bureau chief for the Washington Post. The Islamic Republic's government, however, claims that he has been spying on behalf of the US.

He now has 20 days to appeal the ruling.
