Two merchant ships collided off of the coast of Belgium this morning (Tuesday). Reports indicate that 11 people were rescued from water that was near to freezing.
Local Governor Carl Decaluwe spoke of VRT radio, explaining that "some 20 ships were involved in the rescue because there is little time to save people considering the hour and temperatures."
The ships were a Dutch cargo ship and a gas tanker. There does not appear to be any significant environmental damage.
