A spokesperson for the Kremlin says that Russia is carrying out strikes in Syria in order to support the dictator Bashar al-Assad. In order to do so, they are attacking "extremist groups," including ISIS.
"The goal is to support the Syrian forces in areas where they are weak," he said.
When the strikes began, Russia claimed that it was intervening in order to stop ISIS specifically.
