China has been holding a US citizen for the past six months on charges of stealing state secrets. The story has only come to light now because her husband told the New York Times about the story due to Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to the US.
Sandy Phan-Gillis was born in Vietnam, then moved to the United States. She was detained during a trade visit in March.
According to Phan-Gillis's husband, she was held in a sort of house arrest for six months, and is now going to be placed in a more secure location.
