Two Canadian tourists, the manager of a Norwegian vacation website, and a Filipina woman were kidnapped by armed criminals from the vacation island Samal in the southern Philippines.
The four were reportedly on a yacht when the kidnappers arrived and threatened them with a handgun.
A local police chief told the Independent that "Up to 11 suspects arrived on a motorboat, and some of them headed to the yacht, knocked and forcibly herded the victims to their boat, before speeding off."
