The German government has stated that it is in discussions with Turkey to find a "political solution" to the civil war in Syria.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the phone today (Wednesday). During their talk, Merkel praised the "enormous Turkish efforts" to assist the almost two million Syrian refugees in Turkey.

The two leaders say they intend to increase their cooperation to fix the refugee issue, particularly by fighting human traffickers.
