The German government is planning on implementing controls on its border with Austria, both German and Austrian news media report. The controls are in response to the massive numbers of refugees that have been entering Germany.

According to the Kronen Zeitung paper, Bavarian police will check migrants in order "to determine immediately who is entitled to asylum."

Germany and Austria are both signatories to the Schengen Agreement, which guarantees free movement among its members. The new restrictions could mean that Germany is suspending the agreement.
