German Olympic Committee (DOSB) president Alfons Hoermann believes his country's generosity to refugees from war-torn Syria could help Hamburg's bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games, AFP reports.

"I'm firmly convinced that the image of a tolerant Germany will be viewed positively," Hoermann told Bild newspaper in an interview published on Saturday.

"The welcoming culture towards the refugees links perfectly with the culture of welcoming a global sports festival such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games."
