US President Barack Obama has invited Pakistan's Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, to visit the White House in October.
A senior Washington official says that National Security Advisor Susan Rice traveled to Pakistan in order to meet with senior officials. Both countries are concerned with attacks against Western forces in Afghanistan.
Relations between the US and Pakistan are currently shaky. Pakistan has expressed concern that it will not receive a $300 military million aid package.
