A Russian court has sentenced a Ukrainian film-maker to 20 years in prison for "plotting terrorist attacks" in the Crimea.

Oleg Sentsov, who denies the charges against him, was arrested last May during a protest against Russia's illegal annexation of the Crimea. Activists have accused Russian authorities of fabricating the charges to silence a peaceful political dissenter.

Another activist, Alexander Kolchenko, was sentenced to 10 years alongside him.

Both men sang the Ukrainian national anthem as they were led away, according to witnesses.
