Dozens of Brazilian organizations have signed a petition, asking the government to reject Dani Dayan as the next Israeli ambassador to Brazil. Dayan is the former head of the Yesha Council, which oversees Judea and Samaria.
The petition says that having Dayan serve as ambassador is a "violation of the international legitimacy and sovereignty of Brazil."
Brazil considers communities in Judea-Samaria to be illegal.
Israeli foreign ministry officials commented on the petition by stating, "We have no doubt that at the end of the process, including the Israeli government's official approval of the appointment, and the request for confirmation from the Brazilian government, Dayan will usher stronger ties between the countries. His appointment expresses the special importance Israel places on its relations with its friend Brazil."
