Guatemalan Finance Minister Dorval Carias has resigned his position. An official statement from Carias' office did not say why he is stepping down, though the government has been rocked by a large-scale corruption scandal.
The scandal has largely centered around suspected customs improprieties. Last week the attorney general requested permission from the Supreme Court to prosecute President Otto Perez. Four other ministers have also resigned since then.
President Perez maintains that he did not do anything wrong and insists that he will not step down.
