Lebanese Prime Minster Tammam Salam has acknowledged that security forces used "excessive force" against people protesting the crisis over waste disposal.
Prime Minister Salam told the press today (Sunday) that he stands "with the people and with the citizens." He added that authorities will punish those responsible for using "excessive force against civil society and against the people."
Lebanon's largest landfill was closed on July 17. Since then, much of the country's refuse has not been picked up.
