The UNRWA teachers union in Gaza has announced that it will go on strike tomorrow (Monday), on what should be the first day of the new school year.
Several months ago, the UNRWA announced that it would be unable to begin the school year on time unless it could clear its $101 million deficit. A number of countries contributed about $79 million last week. As a result, UNRWA said that it would open the schools, but with restrictions, such as larger classes.
The teachers' strike is in protest against the restrictions.
