The South African government says it may intervene to prevent Olympian Oscar Pistorius from receiving an early release from prison.

Pistorius was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and sentenced to five years in prison. He has served 10 months thus far. South African law mandates that prisoners are eligible for parole after serving one-sixth of their sentence.

Just Minister Michael Masutha has stated that he is looking into the legality of the Pistorius's parole board.

Pistorius claimed that he thought his girlfriend was an intruder.
