Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) and Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein have decided to begin acting together in order to eradicate polygamy from Israel.
Weinstein says that he will start by enacting new policies. The policies will include ways to ensure enforcement, equality, and effectiveness.
Shaked said, "The phenomenon of polygamy primarily hurts Bedouin women, and undermines the values and foundations of the country as a democratic state. We must stop giving benefits to lawbreakers... The use of criminal enforcement is the first step in the system. Treating the issue requires the cooperation of many government officials with civilians, and the fields of welfare, education, and information."
