Later today (Friday), Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will make a statement in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II.
China, South Korea, and other neighboring countries have expressed concern that Prime Minister Abe will try to downplay previous prime ministers' apologies for Japan's actions during the war.
Tonight's statement will be approved by the cabinet before Abe reads it to the public.
