The Egyptian health ministry reports that at least 61 people have died as a result of this week's heat wave. Almost 600 more have been hospitalized.
The ministry says that 21 people, mostly elderly, died of heatstroke yesterday, and another 40 between Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures in Egypt are expected to reach up to 37 degrees Celsius today.
