Witnesses say that gunshots were fired during a Ferguson march commemorating one year since the death of Michael Brown.
It is not yet known where the shots originated.
Brown, a black resident of Ferguson, Missouri, was shot and killed by a white police officer. A grand jury found that the officer had acted appropriately, but Brown's death galvanized large-scale protests over police brutality around the United States.
