One hundred sixty countries, led by Austria, have called for banning nuclear weapons. "The only way to guarantee that nuclear weapons will never be used again is through their total elimination," said Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz at a Non-Proliferation Treaty conference yesterday (Tuesday).
The primary opponents to disarmament are those countries with nuclear weapons, UN Security Council permanent members (US, Britain, France, Russia, and China), and NATO allies.
