MKs Ruth Calderon (Yesh Atid) and Elazar Stern (Hatnua) on Wednesday submitted a bill preserving Shabbat as a day of rest dedicated to culture, leisure and entertainment while reducing consumer commercial activities.
The bill stipulates that Shabbat will be recognized as Israel’s official day of rest. Public institutions such as museums, zoos, cultural institutions and national parks will be permitted to open on Shabbat as part of the bill.
