The Knesset on Wednesday established a sub-committee to review the issue of Jewish residents ascending to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Judaism's holiest site. Currently the police reserve the right to restrict access based on security concerns. In addition to remains of the First and Second Holy Temples, the site also houses the Al Aqsa mosque and Dome of the Rock and is under the auspices of the Muslim Waqf.
The new sub-committee will not implement law, but review current rules of access. Committee members include MK David Tzur (Hatnuah), MK Zvulun Kalfa (Jewish Home), MK Nachman Shai (Kadima) and is headed by MK Miri Regev (Likud Beytenu).
