Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir (Likud - Yisrael Beiteinu), the son of the late Prime Minister was in attendance, as was the Mayor Benny Kasriel and heads of the JNF. "My father declared Ma'ale Adumim an official city when he served as Prime Minister making it the first to achieve city status in modern times in Judea. Therefore it is natural that this this park be named after him," Shamir stated.
