Supreme Court: Why Postpone Chief Rabbinate Elections?

The Supreme Court issued an official injunction Monday requiring the government to justify postponement of the Chief Rabbinate elections, and otherwise schedule them as soon as possible.

The current Chief Rabbis were to conclude their term of a decade three months ago, and the elections were postponed due to the potential legislation to allow Rabbi Shlomo Amar to serve for a second term.
