UTJ to Bennett: A Million People Can't be Wrong

Chairman Moshe Gafni of the Knesset Finance Committee and fellow United Torah Judaism Knesset member Meir Porush met for about two hours, Thursday evening, with Chairman Naftali Bennett of  Habayit Hayehudi (Jewish Home-New National Religious Party) in an effort to ascertain if recent headlines about a deep bond between Habayit Hayehudi and Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid party indicated mere tactics or a strategic move that reflects Bennett's viewpoint.

Bennett listened primarily as the senior members asked him not to hurt the yeshivas, noting that a million people voted for preservation of the yeshivas, between the voters of their party, Shas and a considerable core within Bennett's party, as well as backers of Rabbi Amnon Yitzchak, whose party failed to qualify. They said, "A million people can't be wrong." Bennett promised not to harm those who study Torah through creation of a real solution of what has come to be called "equal burden of service", an attempt to get more hareidi-religious Jews into the military and national volunteer service.
