The Tura boutique winery in the Samarian (Shomron) Jewish community of Rechelim won gold medals in the 2009 cabernet sauvignon and mountain peak categories, Thursday, at the 2012 Terravino Mediterranean International Wine and Spirits Challenge in Jerusalem. More than 600 wines from Israel and abroad participated in the competition, judged by a panel of 10 international experts and nine Israeli judges.
The medals brought the nine-year-old winery's total of international medals to 11. Tura is one of seven vineyards in the Samaria Council Region. In congratulating Tura owners Erez and Varda Ben Sa'adon, Council Chairman Gershon Mesika said, "In the days of our forefathers, Samaria was the most praised area for wine and, as the prophet said, 'You will continue to plant vineyards in Samaria,' we are renewing the Israeli wine renaissance in Samaria.
