Hidden Jews in Poland Celebrate at Sababa Festival

A Jewish event called the Sababa Festival was held in Katowice, Poland last month. "Today, there are only 120 Jews officially registered as members of the Jewish community, but an estimated 1,000 'hidden Jews' and possibly more reside in the area," stated the Shavei Israel organization. The group helps Jewish people whose parents and grandparents were forced to hide their identity during the Holocaust. Workshops, concerts, Hebrew language classes, hummus cooking lessons and Shabbat services took place over a two-day period. The festival was sponsored by the Silesia Film Institution, Fundacja Brama Cukermana, Koleje Śląskie, Cyferblat, TIKA, and the Jewish Religious Community in Katowice.
