Rabbi Shai Piron was officially named, Sunday evening, as the second Knesset candidate on the list of the Yesh Atid party of former journalist Yair Lapid, according to Channel 10 Television. Rabbi Piron serves as head of the Petach Tikva Yeshiva Institutions, which incorporates the Hesder yeshiva, the yeshiva high school and special education institutions. He also serves as executive director of the Hacol Chinuch (It's All Education) movement. He served on the Dovrat Commission on educational reform.
Last week, Member of Knesset Michael Ben-Ari told Arutz Sheva that he believed Lapid's efforts to court people from the religious-Zionist camp would not bear fruit, explaining that Lapid's party would come and go as did the party of his late father Tomy Lapid. Doctor Ben-Ari refused to attack Piron, who was a fellow student at the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem.
