Rabbinate: Beware Fake Shofars

The shofar market is flooded with fakes, the Rabbinate warned Tuesday, as reported by Maariv. Shofars, made of ram horns, are traditionally blown during the Hebrew month of Elul and until Yom Kippur.

The problematic shofars mostly come from Morocco and China, rabbis said. While factories in Israel will discard shofars that are not fit for use according to Jewish law (halacha) due to holes, factories overseas often attempt to simply fill the holes with super glue or other substances.
