Lawyers Call for Supervision at Abu Kabir

A branch of the Israel Bar Association sent a letter Sunday to Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman  (United Torah Judaism) calling for supervision of the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute. “An investigative committee must be established to examine the events at the pathological institute,” the letter declared.

The committee must also set standards for procedure at the institute, wrote Attorneys Avi Himi and Ori Keinan.

Many criminal attorneys have complained about the standards at Abu Kabir, which is involved in autopsies in cases where crime is suspected. Lawyers have accused doctors of destroying evidence, interfering with investigations, and even hiding parts of bodies.
