300 Pray at Tomb of Otniel Ben-Kenaz in Hevron

About 300 people, accompanied and protected by the Israel Defense Forces, visited the grave of "Otniel, son of Kenaz" the first judge of the people of Israel in the days of Joshua, in Hevron. The tomb is located in a cave located in the western part of the city, which has been under the complete control of the Palestinian Authority (Area A) since 1996, generally with no access to all Jews.

The pilgrimage coincided with the Shovevim period, the first six weeks of reading from the book of Exodus, when many Jews visit the graves of the righteous. Rabbi Chaim Reicher chairman of the "Yesod Olam " (Foundation of the World) association, who organized the pilgrimage, said, "I hope the entry this morning will signal the free opening of the place for Jewish prayer,
at least once a week, as it was previously."
