A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood said Sunday that the organization had no plans to recognize Israel. Making the statement was Dr. Rashid Bayoumi, the second top ranking leader of the Egyptian group, whose Freedom and Justice party appears to be the largest single group in Egypt's parliament.
In an interview in the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, Bayoumi said that “Israel is an enemy entity, a criminal occupying entity. No one from the Muslim Brotherhood will agree to sit with Israel. How can I agree to sit next to a criminal? We will not negotiate with Israel, regardless of circumstances,” he said. In the interview, Bayoumi hinted that the Brotherhood may bring the Israel-Egypt peace agreement to a referendum vote among Egyptians.
