An IDF source Sunday said that the security officials were keeping a close eye on Syria, because the instability there could perhaps prompt Bashar al-Assad to launch an attack on Israel. The source said that the IDF was taking into account various scenarios, including an attack by Syrian soldiers against Israeli targets, acting independently of orders, or Syria allowing or encouraging a terrorist attack, smuggling the terrorists over the border into Israel, as well as the possibility of missile strikes against Israeli towns.
The source said that the IDF has developed plans to deal with the problems, and that the plans would be presented to top defense officials.
