The Judean Residents' Committee criticized, Friday morning, the appointment of Brigadier General Nitzan Alon to head the Israel Defense Forces' Central Command. Alon raised the ire of area residents during his tenure as Judea and Samaria Division commander, profiling soldiers who lived in the area to avoid interference in the government's uprooting of Jews and demolitions of their homes. Defense Minister Ehud Barak is also under fire for ordering the action and not giving the communities the legal status that could avoid it.l
A statement by the committee reads, "One doesn't put out a fire with gasoline. The appointment of Nitzan Alon, of all people, to the Central Command is a clear provocation which shows that Barak is maliciously igniting a civil war. Ehud Barak constitutes a danger to the state and will lead the Netanyahu government to its premature end."
