Temple Mount Bridge Closed Next Week for Renovation

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation in coordination with the office of the Prime Minister will strengthen the Rambam Gate bridge which leads from the Western Wall plaza up to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Municipality architects deemed the ramp a fire hazard and structurally unsound. Jewish and Christian visitors were unable to access the holy site for several days as a result. The wooden ramp will be treated with special material to make it fire proof.

Jewish worshipers were turned away from the gate by police on Sunday. Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute said he acceded the Temple Mount on Wednesday morning and found relations with the police to be cordial and sympathetic. There are multiple gates at ground level leading to the Temple Mount accessible from the Muslim Quarter of the Old City.

The Temple Mount is the site of the Beit Hamikdash, or Holy Temple, the first of which was built by King Solomon. It is currently home of the Al Aksa Mosque and Dome of the Rock.
