Peace Activists Slam MK for Attempts to Silence Muezzin

The Semetic Action movement on Tuesday criticized Member of Knesset Danny Danon (Likud) for his suggestion a day earlier that mosques be prevented from sounding the traditional Muslim call to prayer from the muezzin in cities with mixed Jewish-Arab populations.

The group, which fights for Jewish national rights in Israel's Judea and Samaria regions while working to foster dialogue and improved relations between Jewish and Arab residents of those regions, called Danon's statements "Islamophobic" and "counterproductive," adding that "an increase in mutual tolerance for each others' cultures is necessary if our two peoples ever hope to live together in this land... Danon's statements display insensitivity and give ammunition to those claiming peace requires the separation of peoples and shrinking of Israel's borders."
