IDF Told to Prepare to Help Turkey

Chief of Staff Benny Gantz of the Israel Defense Forces gave orders , Sunday afternoon, to prepare to help Turkey, following the earthquake in the eastern part of the country, which measured 7.3 on the Richter scale and has been blamed for the deaths of hundreds. The lieutenant-general said the IDF was awaiting instructions from the diplomatic echelon.

Earlier, Defense Minister Ehud Barak instructed the ministry's diplomatic-security branch to offer any assistance Israel can provide. It has been almost 11 months since Turkey helped Israel fight the Carmel Ridge Fire near Haifa, despite Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's belligerence over Israel's security blockade on Gaza and the death of nine Turkish citizens who were part of an attack on Israeli commandos who prevented a Turkish ship from breaking the naval blockade in 2010.
