Chairman Benny Katzover of the Samaria Residents Committee criticized commander Nitzan Alon of the Judea-Samaria Division, Thursday evening, for comments printed in the New York Times on Tuesday. Referring to the Congressional threat of withholding American aid to the Palestinian Authority over its unilateral bid for statehood at the United Nations, Alon told the newspaper, “Reducing the Palestinians’ ability to pay decreases security. American aid is relevant to this issue.”
Referring to Alon's singling out Judean and Samarian soldiers for scrutiny Katzover said, "Brigadier-General Alon is behaving like the last of the 'Price Tag' [vandalism] perpetrators when he spits on the rule of law and acts abroad to lobby members of the American Congress to act against the diplomatic echelon. We call on the prime minister to remind Alon of his function, his mission to protect the residents of Judea and Samaria, what's the correct relationship between the diplomatic echelon and the military, and to prevent the defense minister from advancing him in his next job." Alon is about to finish his stint as Judea-Samaria commander.
