Chief IDF Rabbi Intervened on Singing Women and Cadets

Chief Rabbi Rafi Peretz of the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that his office is working diligently on halachic (Jewish legal) rulings related to the Torah ban on men listening to women singing. Addressing a gathering a the Sha'arei Mishpat College, the brigadier general said that he stood at the side of a group of officer cadets who were recently disciplined for walking out of an event where women sang, adding, "It's no coincidence that some of them were not dismissed from their [officer training] course. It's a complicated matter."

The rabbi said, "I'm convinced there are solutions that bring the military and halacha together, and have been working a while to find them."
