Closing of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit to High Court

The Supreme Court will hold a hearing, Monday, on an urgent appeal against the closing of the Israel Police's unit for fighting human trafficking, exploitation and cheating.

The petition was submitted by workers committees and Chairwoman Orit Zuaretz of the Knesset subcommittee on the trafficking of women after it became apparent that the police intended to dissolve the unit immediately, instead of gradually and in an orderly fashion, per the testimony of police representative Yoav Seglovich at a committee hearing in June. It was agreed that the police would return to the committee in October with a timetable for presenting a new organization chart for dealing with human trafficking.
