Samaria Residents: Peres Should Stick to His Own Job

The Samarian Residents' Council protested, Sunday evening, a report earlier in the day by a senior Palestinian Authority (PA) official that President Shimon Peres met with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas four times in recent months in Amman and London in an effort to renew diplomatic talks. Council Chairman Benny Katzover said that Peres made a mockery of the office, adding that the president is supposed to represent all segments of the people.

Katzover explained, "In his official capacity, Peres is trying to fulfill the vision of the establishment of a Palestinian state at the expense of the settlement enterprise in the homeland of the Jewish people. This sort of activity harms and undermines the standing of Israel on its diplomatic principles. It would be better if the president stuck to his own job and let the elected officials carry out what is agreed upon by the law and by the people."
