Syrian President Bashar Assad said Wednesday that his troops have made “some mistakes” while putting down protests against the regime. Assad's comments were made in a meeting with members of the UN Security Council.

Assad said steps were being taken to prevent the problems from repeating themselves.

The Assad regime argues that the protesters are violent terrorists who have attacked police and soldiers and seek to destabilize Syrian society.
